Last summer I wrote a pretty lengthy summer bucket list and left about a third of it undone. I mean, I still had a great summer, but I also feel like I bit off much more than I could chew as far as checking things off a list. So, this summer my list is much shorter and more manageable…hopefully. Some are repeats from last summer because, frankly, some things should be done every summer. That being said, this is my last summer in Salt Lake City (sob!) and I want to maximize my time here, especially in my beloved mountains.
Summer Bucket List: 2015
- No tan lines or sun burns (I know, boring and “adult,” but burns cannot happen for me.)
- Say “yes” to adventure!
- Sleep under the stars
- Hike to the top of a mountain, a big one
- Summer kick off bonfire
- Go to a rodeo
- Run a 10k
- Go to the farmer’s market, make meal with purchases
- Make homemade ice cream
- Outdoor movie (either at the drive in, or in someone’s back yard)
- Attend the wild flower festival
- Dust off my big camera, take more pictures
- Spend as much time as possible in the mountains: hiking on school nights, camping on weekends, dinner in the canyon with friends
And, I am forcing myself to stop at 13 instead of trying to edit this to a more even sounding 15. Thirteen things to do–some of them pretty significant–is plenty for a summer where I also have to go to work every day and go to some conferences and do the laundry and wash the dishes and blah blah blah. Also, a disclaimer: even though it’s already June, I am counting “summer” as the time between and including Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day weekend.
What is on your list for summer? Do you have any big trips planned? Stay at home activities? What are you doing to stay busy and stay sane?
I have an ice cream maker you can borrow, if you need it.
I have one as well, it’s pretty big for one or two people and I am lacking freezer space for a large batch of ice cream. I know, my life is so hard! So, I may take you up on your offer!

Mine is also probably too big for two people… I think this means you need to invite friends.
My summer consists of frantically writing to get the stupid dissertation done. Instead of a summer bucket list, I’m making a post-defense list, with “sleep” and “hang out at the library” at the top of it. Although I am planning to spend a good amount of weekend time in the mountains when I get back from Europe. We scouted out wedding sites in Big Cottonwood Canyon a couple weeks ago, and how had I lived here for a year and a half and not seen how beautiful that is?
Ooooh, I really love Big Cottonwood, SO many gorgeous places up there!! (And Little Cottonwood…and Millcreek…and Am. Fork…basically, ALL the canyons are stunners.)

I love your summer bucket list. Some of those things are on my list as well. I wanna go camping real bad…
but first I’ll have a three-week vacation with my family (parents, sister +family). We’ll be traveling around quite a bit while they’re here (my BIL has never been to the US) and I literally can’t wait to be off work for a while and explore! 🙂
Mountains are my happy place. Especially big mountains that have tops above the tree line and a blanket of perpetual snow. Swooooon!

Sounds fun, I don’t have many bucket list for 2015, focusing on learning. Next year I’ll travel more
I love learning new things, it’s always so invigorating! Anything in particular you are studying/learning about right now?
